Dear Parents,

During all my years of training, we emphasized to parents to always bring your Vaccination / Health Record to every office visit.
Many times hospital clinic records were either illegible, lost, or simply difficult to locate. Most of you are familiar with  the NYC Department of Health "My Health Record" pictured below. In addition many health systems, pediatricians and states  had their own formulations; each with different requirements for school entry.
WELCOME TO THE DIGITAL AGE.
Vaccination requirements in New York City are now formalized , and dependent on the nationwide recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).


I present to you just a bit of modern history of the CIR:

In 1997 the NYC Health Code amendment went into effect requiring health care providers to report immunizations given to all children under 8 years of age to the CIR.

In 2006  New York State (NYS) Public Health Law 2168 was enacted also requiring providers in NYS to report  immunizations given to people under 19 years of age.

CIR  vaccination records  and lead testing records are currently available to any health care provider or school registered with this system. This effectively makes the aforementioned yellow vaccination card obsolete. In fact public health stations in NYC are no longer distributing yellow cards; rather they are giving parents or guardians a digital printout of their record.

 
So what is new and exciting  for the year 2017?

Effective January 2017, anyone who is a resident of NYC and is a parent or guardian of a child may access his/her vaccination record through the same CIR system.
In order to do so you will need a free and easy to obtain NYC ID Card.
